Naihanno
46m
The Nai Han No, or Naihanchi kata, is presented as it was performed by James Mitose Sensei, distinct from most Naihanchi or Tekki katas seen in other systems. The tape explores the philosophical aspects of the form, in which the practitioner positions themselves so that no matter how an opponent attacks, they remain in a place of safety and escape. Hanshi Juchnik covers Mitose Sensei's principles, including body follows the head, movement is a falling process, and the teaching that in true self-defense there is no body contact. The grandfather story, posture, positioning, and ma-ai are all addressed within the context of a kata seen by very few people.
